Happy Holidays!

Tis' the Season for spending time indoors with family and friends. It is also the time of year for shopping and gift giving! My company and I are putting together some new art prints, calenders for the new year and cuddly "Snow Melts" from one of our fellow artist. We will be updating our site frequently this month to get everything new up promptly.
"We Three Kings" print is a popular print this time of year and we have less then 100 available so if it's one you want try to get it early. I will be working on some new artwork as well throughout the month. If you are in the Cleveland, Ohio area you can see some of my work on display at No Regrets Tattoo Company of Cleveland. They are featuring print number 1/100 of "We Three Kings" and an original canvas painting of mine "Santa's Helper" (anime).
If you are heavy into social media you can follow my studio (Studio One Tree) and I on Twitter, Tumblr and Deviant Art. These are all great place to see what's new and receive updates. I love connecting with people and enjoy the feedback. Stay safe and warm this Christmas and shop Studio One Tree!

Ghouls art by Levi Thomas

Ghouls! Art by Levi Thomas
So I have been starting some art projects for October. As many of you that follow my art know that I always do a ton of art for Halloween (oo) I wanted to post a concept piece I was working on and show from start to finish. Well it's not finished yet only because it has sparked many side workings. I am now going to do a sculpture piece of this art after the print is complete. Also after sending the rough idea to my buddy Charlie (who by the way is an amazing artist with 3-D skills that are of the chart. You should go find him "charlie clausing" on the web and follow him!). He sent me a 3-D render that will give you a little sneek peek of what is yet to come! It was one of those pieces that you cant just draw it and say "okay, thats done on to the next". No, now it must be done in many different ways. Well enough rambling on. Thanks for checking out the blogg piece. I will try to keep the updates often, as well as all the other art I have been working on this summer. :)

"Nuclear" Poster art by Levi Thomas

My newest poster to arrive at the studio "Nuclear". I worked on this fun art a few months back. I was working on some ideas with a few other artist to raise money for the tragedy in Japan. We did not end up going with this art. Well I couldnt let it just sit in the files of my computer so I made it into a poster. I will be submitting it to the studio website to be sold as a 23x34 poster size print. There will be 100 available all hand signed and numbered. If you have a studio or a just blank wall it is a great piece of art to hang up. There is alot of other great poster art on our website as well and much more to come. I will be featuring them as they show up to the studio from the print shop. Hope you enjoy. These posters are the highest quality posters and the paper is a nice heavy stock. See more at  http://www.studioonetree.com/

Easter is upon us..

It's been a busy March and April. Putting together the anticipated "Die Turkey Die' book as well as a book full of artwork from the studio. Both due out this summer. I have had a few request to do some holiday art. With Easter around the corner  I thought about doing something different from the usual, Well different from my usual anyways. My idea was basically taking the concept that most kids have of Easter which is the ever wonderful "Easter Bunny" and combining it with the  religious side of the holiday. Now, I rarely draw about politics or religion, mostly because every where you turn people will argue their opinion on what's right and what's wrong. So take this art piece how you may and create your own thoughts and feelings that fit you. In the meantime, I will continue to make art that I enjoy to do and have fun sharing it with all of you. Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the time spent with  friends and loved ones.  I'm going to go stock up on Peeps!

New Print "I'll Kill You".

"I'll Kill You" Art by Levi Thomas. Some new art I was originally saving for the upcoming book "Art By Levi" vol 1. coming later this summer, But I had to get this to the studio for prints. I had alot of fun doing this and had alot of frustrations too. When I first created the idea for it, I drew it 2x2 (very small). Then the pencil sketch sat in a pile of scrap paper for a while and kept getting shuffled around till it was almost forgotten about. Im not saying ths is some kind of masterpiece, but it was something I couldn't just leave unfinished. So finally I had a rainy day in the studio and got out the little crumbled,  faded sketch, and started putting it together. Now that it's done I am glad I did. This will add a colorful look in the studio despite its unusual name. It will still appear in the book and with the original concept sketch. The print will be for sale at http://www.studioonetree.com/studioprints later in March. If you want it sooner please contact me levi@studioonetree.com . There will be 100 available, numbered and hand signed. Hope you enjoy this one as much as we do.

"Watching" poster print

"Watching" artwork by Levi Thomas. This poster is available at Studio One Tree. Originally I wanted this to be a print 11x17. Then I saw this as a poster 34x24 and was floored. The print was just to small in comparison to the poster. The company that we get our posters through does some amazing work. The paper stock they use is thicker than most and the colors are vibrant. They really bring the life out of the artwork as intended when I created it. I look at these posters as collectors pieces so each one comes numbered and hand signed by me. There is only a set amount available as well.  They are gallery size pieces of art and should be enjoyed as such. I value quality and feel my friends, fans and collectors appreciate that as well. I enjoy making the artwork so I want people to enjoy showcasing it. It's what makes being an artist worth it. As a kid this poster would have been my favorite.

"Shadows of Neptune" New Print

"Shadows of Neptune" art by Levi Thomas
This print will be available soon on Studio One Tree's website. Nuptune is one of the evil characters from my Devil Sprite series. I have been working on this series alot lately with many new sprites (pretty much one for every planet plus the main character).  I will be releasing them more and more as I finish them. I think the next one will either be venus or the sunbright sprite. It is starting to get tough to get the artwork done because I am allready working on sculptures so I guess I will bounce between.  I will try get some pictures up soon of the sculpture as well.  until then here is the newest "BEHOLD NEPTUNE"!

Fun Mousepads

Mousepads! Mousepads! I have been working on new mousepads with new art for your office or home. They are available now and new ones on the way later this month and early March. I have had great feedback from customers and friends about the quality, fun and uniqueness the mousepads have brought to thier office and home. I have done my best to set the prices to be affordable and the quality of them is the best. (which is the most important thing to me.)  They are a buck or two more then the thin and uncustom ones you can buy at computer stores but, they are like none other and feature some of my personal favorite art from the studio. I have put these pads to the test with spills and usage and they wash and wear great. The pads are thick and the colors are vibrant. So check them out at http://www.studioonetree.com/  in the "SHOP" and find one that is right for you home or office. Also check back to see some of the new ones when they arrive in March. Its always good to have a "few" to change you workspace from time to time....If your like me that is.

New Art! New Look!

I know, I know, updates, updates! Well are newest look to our studio website (http://www.studioonetree.com/) should be the look that will stay for a while. There has been so many new projects going on in the studio, that I needed something for all the social media venues. Also something that will allow me to focus on my artwork and just make addition to the site without having to change everything. All shopping cart buttons for all  art are working as well. Hopefully this will allow me to get the art quicker from the studio to the web to be sold.
We have a bunch of mousepads in the studio shop  and coming soon T-shirts,  hoodies and more. There is a few bugs I need to staighten out but they should be fixed before I even post this to blogger. Thank you for checking it out.

"Boost" New Print

"Boost"
The newest print coming to Studio One tree.  I have had alot of fun doing some new art from my "Devil Sprite" series. I have taken the art from some of my scribbles in my old sketchpad. I am not sure how many I will make finished prints but a few of them I really wanted to.....I guess you might say re-create. The scribbles are rough with alot of little notes with them but they look pretty cool as a final framed piece of art on the walls of the studio. I have shown some others "from scribble to print" of this series and have had alot of great feedback, so I am sure I will do a few more from time to time. Never know I might develop a short animated series eventually.  I have a pretty cool story to go with it just have to finish some of my other projects laying around the studio. This should be available for purchase "hand signed" around Febuary 14, 2011.

What makes a great website?

What makes a great website? Many of people would probably never agree. I have been building, managing and marketing websites for over 10 years now and it amazes me still today. Simple means no confusion! Surprisingly the small sites are the ones that seem to have the best turn out, Now I'm not saying corpo sites dont get huge hits but I have noticed in feedback that more people return to a site that has fewer pages almost as if they stop in look around see what's new and then off to the next site. Hmmm?  Well either way I think creativity and setting the mood with good colors and simple navigation will always be the winner.  Even with a large website with lots of information it can always be simplified. Just be creative and remember you have a limited amount of time to grab that browsing persons attention before they are bored and off to check there facebook.

From sketch to print

I have had alot of people ask me what goes into a print. This is a glimpse of how I come up with the art and prints I do. First, I try to sketch out a basic idea and leave myself little notes about colors or effects I need to add here and there in CS3. (This idea was a very rough sketches). Second, I very cleanly draw the pieces of the picture individually. This way I can keep everything in its own layer (once scanned into the computer). After I  work on the background I then just follow the notes that I wrote on the sketch. I allready know in my mind what I want the final piece to look like, so it's just trying to not stray away from the original concept. Lastly, check to make sure there is no bad lines and that the layer arrangements are right. Also if you know there is a chance you may make a print out of it or use the art for other things such as a banner or blog save it with the layers. Countless times I have not done that and have had to recreate it all just to change one thing or to add something. I will be posting more of these scribbles to print features that I have layin around in the studio, so you can see how just a simple scribble can really turn into something great when you see it through to the end. Just have fun and let the picture create itself.

Foamies, not just for kids!

Foamies....that wierd soft foam paper parents buy for the kids to glue together and make the day fun and crafty. Well in doing so, I have found if you know how to draw with a razor blade and can understand negative and postive space, you can do some really cool stuff with foam paper. The picture on the right is a sample and actually the first ones I did. The really amazing ones have been givin away or even sold. The best results with foamies is layers, layers and more layer. One more thing, simple is better. I will try to get some pictures together in the future of more creative things you can make out of FOAMIES!

Die Turkey Die by Levi Thomas

Die Turkey Die is a illustrated book I am currently working on. Basically it will feature a boy hunting a turkey. I say "a" as in 1 turkey because in the wonderful world of cartoons things can be killed over and over and still appear the very next page (love it). I'm thinking this approx. 30 pg paperback will not be suitable for everyone do to its mild cartoon violence but keep in mind this is what many ancestors may have done to survive. (sure we'll go with that!).
As a kid I grew up with some of the greatest cartoon humor as well as cartoon violence. One of my favorite was "Spy vs Spy". Die Turkey Die is similar but with blood, not the 300 spartans type blood but enough to know that the red stuff on the page is not ketchup. The book will be in the ever more common greys over white with a vivid red splash here and there. If you would like to see more illustrations from this book as it comes together they will be posted on http://www.studiooonetree.com/ periodically. (not all of them though gotta save some anticipation for the finished product.
